Time to reflect-Paralegal

So "Paralegals" are more active and more efficient at their work and have to endure a lot of trouble going through the research of the case that the lawyer has to present in. Many people thought like i did that the lawyers did all the work with no help well we were wrong they also go through more school than lawyers do because of the fact. Some people go straight to being a lawyer after they finish school and just forget all about continuing so they can learn more.
In the end I learn that i much rather become a paralegal than a lawyer. I hope any questions my readers had were answers

The Final Reflection On Whether To Accurie A Math Degree

Now that all the research is complete. The essential question was should I go for a math degree. With the research I have done I think it would be wise to pursue a math degree. There were many things I learned from this project. Like the jobs you get get hired for by just completing a math course and getting a degree. Like the accounting firms, banking and real estate firms. Those are good jobs that make lots of money. For the most part a good job is something you strive for after college. So by getting a math degree a good job will be available for you after college, because employers are now in high demand of math degree majors. Then I discovered that you would have to go to school for four-six years just to complete a math degree. But I'm still somewhat confused on what class I have to take. A more detailed search will have to be done. Or just going to college and finding out the hard way. But with watever classes I have to take, I think I'm pretty sure on what I have to accomplish to get a math degree. Like the tenure of time I have to stay to accuire a full math degree. Focus hard and study to stay in the good grade graces of math. Then when I have a full degree I look for a good job, mainly in accounting or banking. But even with all this successful information, there were flaws in my search. Like the classes I need to complete, to complete the requirements to get a math degree. I tried numerous searchs on different sites just to come up short! But I did keep searching, even going to different search sites besides google, like msn and yahoo. But for the most part it was a successful search and I think I for the most part, fully answered my question.

The Benefits Of Having A Math Degree

With having a math degree there are some good benefits, like being mentally smarter and good job opportunities. In addition to just teaching, there are many other jobs to get hired for , because you have a math degree. Such as banking, investment firms, government agencies, accounting firms, real estate firms, egineering firms, etc, just to name a few. There are lots of degrees you can choose from. With any of those degrees that major in math, they can and probably will get you a great job. Which means you don't have to break your neck for a job, because there are lots of employers looking for math majors for their jobs. Your critical thinking skills will get increase gradually as will your problem solving skills. As in you won't be struggling to do problems in your head that involves money. Math will help for getting a job, and just being an all around smarter person.

A reflection on what I've done

As I near the end of this entire research project I'd like to reflect on what I've done and how I feel I did on my finding out the answer to my essential question "What can sports management do for me"?, And will this be a career choice I regret later on in life. Throughout my research I've learned a great deal of information that gave me my answer to my essential question. I've learned that there are a number of different fields that you can go into via sports management for example, becoming a sports agent, In a nutshell they basically represents the athlete as far as money and endorsements go. The only thing that turned me off about that profession was that you basically have that athletes life in your hands and I don't think I could handle that responsibility of knowing I could ruin two lives at once if the wrong moves were made on my part. Then you have the managing of a actual team which is something i could perhaps see myself doing. Managing trades, money, contracts I like that idea. Both of these professions are very competitive but as this industry grows so does the amount of jobs.

Then comes the job of being an Athletic Director. This caught my eye because i know of people in this career and I also have not read anything I didn't like about it or heard anything as well. Like I've said plenty of times, I can see myself really progressing in this line of work, I'll be around sports which is wonderful. The only negitive I see is not making everyone happy as far as getting every sports the supplies they need. They'll have them but they may not as up to date as other sporting activities.

So as i conclude my blogs I think I have successfully found my answer to my question and ready to start my career well after college that is.

Thursday, May 15, 2008

As i continued to ride my recent success to new heights i found even more information on my essential question and ways to find it. Like one day I'm watching sports center and a breaking story comes up about a college basketball star named o.j. mayo and how it is allocated that he received over 30 thousand dollars throughout his brief one year career at the university of southern California. The allegations stemmed from guy formally close to o.j. mayo named Louis Johnson how came out with strong evidence about a man named Ronald Guillory how is very close to mayo. Johnson states that he can prove Guillory purchased many things for him and mayo with money provided by the BDA which is which is mayo current agent representation.
bush and that he and his fam mayo was recruited well if you want to use the words recruited because mayo recruited by the Johnson says that the the agency was recruiting mayo for one of there agents to represent him even threw his high school years and the money began even back when he was in high school. I felt this particular story would help me answer my question because of a similar story that the came out about a another f0rmer athlete at the university of southern California named Reggie received many things threw out his three years at the colleges one big item was a house that his family was allowed to live in for free while Reggie bush attended college. Many people think that the university of southern California is also responsible for not keeping a better eye on mayo and even that the coaches may have known what was going on with mayo but i my self feel that red flags should have went up with how he recruited the university by having some of his people call the coaches at the university of southern cal and tell them that he wanted to play ball at there university and the funny thing about this was that the coaches were cool with this because he was such a great talent. Now i will go back to the search method that brung me success when I learned to research my question in quotation marks.

Final blog- Technology: GOOD vs BAD

In my research for my essential question I didn't answer my question because there was not an answer to it, it was more like an opinion. My question was "Is technology good for our society or is it making people inadequate to learn". Through my quest for information i had a lot of unuseful information that through me off a little but i happened to find my way back to a lot of good stuff that really helped me answer my question. One of the blogs that helped me was an article titled "The Presidents Letter" by Dawn Bruner, this article was about some of the technological advances that the economy has implemented to the people in our society.

Dawn Bruner talks about online banking, e-mail, internet and computers in general. She has very inparticular sides of views on all these advances but the main one she talks about is computers. She gives her side of the story and believes that technology has made us lazy but goes on later to say that she would not trade her computer for a typewriter. She made it seem as if she is on both sides of the argument but it showed me that she does believe that technology makes us lazy but it has affected her to because she can't work or organize her blogs without her computer.

The information that I found from Dawn helped me a lot because it was the main article that helped me give my opinion about the situation. So in my opinion I am on both sides of the argument, I believe that technological advances have made us lazy but I also think it has brought us far. If we never expanded our minds to find technology we probably would not electricity to run the computer i am typing on. Or we probably would not have anything we rely on a daily bases like cell phones, and of course computers, and even the clock that gives us the time to change classes in our school.

So in conclusion I Think that technology has helped in many ways and only affected us in motivation a little. Technology has made us advanced and lazy. So in the end i have answered my question and I belong to both sides of the argument.

Conclusing of My Research

There were many vidal thing in my research paper on the apprenticeship in carpentry. I have found out all the facts needed in helping me to achieve my goal as in apprentice. I now no many things that I never would of thought a apprenticeship was. I now no that this is the field I want to do for a career in my life. I no all the things necessary to get into the apprenticeship program. This field is something you want to, In also have to take seriously if you plan on becoming a carpenter in qualifying for the apprenticeship program. Carpentry is something I enjoy in will continue to enjoy as I progress more in my life. In my research I found out many things that i now understand that prepared me to progress more in to this field. I learn that carpentry is a fast growing trade all around the world which will keep growing do to the needs of people because many people buy houses. I also no now that you cant just apply for the apprenticeship program you have to take a standard math test which you have to score 70% for them to even set you up for a interview. I learn that in carpentry you have to be careful in pay attention because you can get hurt badly or even killed do to not taking it seriously. Carpentry is a good career for many people it is the fastest growing industries do to the growth of the populations which allows carpentry to stay in business. I learn many things in my research that i no will help me to have a successful career in this trade in would recommend this field to any one who find a interest in carpentry which i have found. Carpentry is something I truly enjoy in hope to go farther as I complete the apprenticeship program wich is 4 years. I one day hope to run my own carpentry business one day and hirer people that find carpentry as interesting as I haved in take it seriously as will. I have found this Research project very sucessful because it allow me to understand what I want to do for a career in my life.

The Closing Reasearch of My Carpentry Research Paper

So I continue my research which I think I found out enought information on a Apprenticeship but I found out one last thing that gave me a clear view on the Apprenticeship in carpentry. I found out to apply in before you get into the apprenticeship you have to first be a highschool graduate or have your GED in have to be 18 or a high school or be a highschool graduate at 17. I also found out that it is a carpentry math test which is a 2-hr test which you use no calculator but tou get scrap paper. You have to have a passing score of 70%("Carpentry Apprenticeship"). "Patrick LaHaye" a carpenter brought out something important which was that the apprenticeship is a 4 year program no less then 6,240 hour(patrick).

After you take the math test for the apprenticeship in pass with 70% you get setup for a interview. In the interview they let you no if they interested in you in did you qualitify for the apprenticeship program. You got to remember you is competeting for a spot which a certain amount of people get in so even thought you get 70% your goal is to get higger then that 70%. That look for ones that have carpent background so by me going to McKinley they will look at me befor someone that just want to get in the program.

Research concluded...

As I reach my last research blog I ask myself have i successfully done my research, have I made points on what I wanted out of these research blogs, And ultimately, have I found the answer to my original question " What can sports management do for me, and is this what I want?". I feel that I have in fact answered those questions and done my research carefully. I recently found out that in the field of Sports Management, you will most likely live a rigorous and fast paced career. on (http://careers.state university.com) it stated that "The work entails attending sports events at night and on weekends, although for a sports fan that aspect of the job may be a tremendous perk, it requires extensive travel...and working long hours". I personally would not want to be away from my family and friends constantly but if that was my career I think I'd just have to adjust.

Also i recently learned that in the field of Sports Management as well as marketing professionals " as a rule are college educated" usually the required four years. (Http:// careers.state university.com). To get ahead most college students should start as interns in teams offices and or athletic departments. At Daemen College i know that past college students that majored in Sports management have worked with the Buffalo Sabers and the Buffalo Bisons as well as some other sports teams. Also Athletic directors can come from Sports management. This is a well paying job. At (http://swz.salary.com) I Also found out that the median expected pay for a typical Athletics Director at higher education in the U.S is $96,105 and for a mens Athletic Director at higher education can make a median salary of $82,413.

Point blank period to survive in this field or to strive you must keep that love of the sport your in, alive and well, because like everyone says you will be miserable working a job you do not enjoy. I want this career to be just as enjoyable as if i were on the court playing Basketball. "Many Sports management Professionals are former athletes themselves and come to Sports Management via Business Management" (Http://career.StateUniversity.com). I can really see myself succeeding in this line of work

Paralegal-Finalization-Body 4

Paralegals have to endure a lot of work while the actual "Lawyer" does not have to deal with the heavy research and book work they only have t appear in court, meet the defendant or plaintiff.
Doing this research actually has helped me on my way to becoming a lawyer because like a paralegal i to had to research the subject, reword the way it was put and finalize the project.
So after about 3 years as a paralegal and studying under the mind of a good lawyer, and you absorb his or her teachings you will feel the experience flowing through your body. They you may want to attend law school or re attend (if had been to law school previously). To get a certified law degree and work on your career as a lawyer.

Coming to a conclusion (Sports Management)

So I sit in my room beginning to think of a ways that i've come closer in finding my answer to my question "What can sports management do for me". I'm beginning to think that i've found my answer. I won't get into what i believe that answer is but i'm sure i know. I've done a little more research on the web and came across (Quintcareers.com). it told me that " It provides consulting, placement, and traning services to more than 300 profesional sports teams and intercolligiate athletic departments and provide carrer tips and placement for job seekers interested in a career working with sports firms. No cost to job seakers".

I personally see this as a great way to find even more information for my topic. Buf as of now i feel that its not a question of will i find more information but will it fit my personality. Will it be the right fit for me, just more personal questions present themselves now to me. I feel that i'm in the right direction in finding those answers.

Paralegal-A mistake In My Research-Body 3

Due to a recent find in my search i may have posted in my first blog that you need 3 years of regular college and 4 years of law school. Well it turns out that tha infomation was in fact incorrect it turns out that.
There is no specific educational requirement in most U.S. states for legal assistants or paralegals. Some paralegals have only on-the-job experience, while some paralegals have completed a 2 year course or bachelor's dergree in paralegal studies. Others have completed a bachelor's or even a master's dergree in another field, and quite a few of these people have also completed a regular or post-baccalaureate paralegal certificate. Many paralegals have completed all of their training before entering the profession, while others have completed their education while working their way up from the mailroom in a law firm. Many paralegals take Continuing Legal Education credits to fulfill the requirements of their firm, state, or association.

Math Degree The Requirements, The Jobs

I would want a math degree for so many different reasons. The feel of accomplishment, graduation, among others. But the main reason I think people strive for a degree is job openings. But there are requirements to apply for these jobs. Like for being a math instructor. You would need a math degree and fifteen hours of higher level math courses. But not only do you need math but also be a good citizen too. With no history of drug alchol or child abuse. As stated on job search engine for a math instructor. To be be a full math teacher evenrequires more. For schooling, you would have to go for three to ten years. On average completing our degree in four in a half years. Making sure you get your undergraduate degree from accredited college courses. Also completing a graduate degree from graduate school. On the sitemath forum. Even so with math there are other demands. Like math deals with computers and a high understanding of science. But also in the new fields of math statistical and mathematical analisis is required of you. In canterbury university.

As my research continued I came across a couple different people that had interesting information on my subject but one person that really stood out was a women named Dawn Bruner. She published an article called the Presidents Letter- Technology: Good vs Bad, this article talked about some of the technology advancements that have occurred over the past ten years and how they affected the society. She talks about online banking and how its more efficient for the bankers and they can tell if a check bounces sooner and deposits checks faster, the bad thing is that people wit online accounts have a higher risk for fraud and identity theft(Bruner). As Dawn goes on about How Internet affects us and even e-mail but what really helped me is how she explained that she wouldn't trade a computer for a typewriter(Bruner). So in this article Dawn explains her love for technology and she would not trade it for anything.

The Research continued...

Okay i'm back but unfortunetly I don't have much more information about my topic. So i find myself doing more of a self evaluation. I want to be around sports for the remainder of my life. It's what I know, It's what I do, and it's apart of me. My teacher brought up a new way i could find Information, I could perhaps ask someone in that line of work or a college professor that teaches the course Sports Management. I'm sure they could give me another outlook on the major as well as a studnet in that major. They could tell me what it takes to strive in the Sports Management world, obstacles i can expect to come my way as well as the rewards That would be more of a primary source so i'm positive they'll be helpful. But untill then, I'm still searching in the shallow and deep Google waters. Hoping to find maybe something new something I don't already know... but I don't know where to look.

A couple days ago i came across a site (capital.com/business.planning/management.) it gave tips on how I should carry myself in the management world. For example I should " deal with problems in a timely manner, seek help if i'm unsure what to do, be consistent , and know my strengths and short comings". These are all great attributes i feel i have. success is in my future. Will it be in Sports Management?

Carpenty Research Part 2

So I continue my search I type in carpentry, A web site came up that sad Careers in Construction. I found out that an average salary for a apprentices is 16.90 per hour. I also learn that carpenters work throw out the construction industry's, They are the largest group of building trades workers. I also found out carpentry work is divided in two categories. Rough Carpentry and Finish Carpentry. Rough carpentry often work outside on Buildings, Houses, And Construction sites. Finish carpentry put in windows, doors, they build in install Cabinets, Lay Hardwood Floor, And also Panel Rooms(Career and Construction). Jim a carpenter sad " A carpenter may work on large construction sites or in small workshops but they get the work done"( Craigmyle).

Something I also learn was that Rough carpenters are expected to lose work time in the winter and when weather is bad(Career and Construction). Now I am thinking is Rough carpentry for me? Then I learn that Both Rough and Finish Carpenters can expect to lose time because of layoffs and material shortages(Career and Construction). So now I am thinking, then I continue to read which i found out that you get pay still and you don't be layoff for a long period of time sometimes only a week or a couple of days cause its all ways work in the construction field. I also learn you can do many side jobs as will. Now I am finding out some interesting things which I am ready to continue my research in find out more of my answer and more interesting facts.

Paralegal-Duties-Body 2

Paralegals are often undermined due to the fact that they work under the lawyers of today

so i give you a run trough on what i mean

While lawyers assume ultimate responsibility for legal work, they often delegate many of their tasks to paralegals. In fact, paralegals—also called legal assistants—are continuing to assume a growing range of tasks in legal offices and perform many of the same tasks as lawyers. Nevertheless, they are explicitly prohibited from carrying out duties considered to be the practice of law, such as setting legal fees, giving legal advice, and presenting cases in court.

One of a paralegal’s most important tasks is helping lawyers prepare for closings, hearings, trials, and corporate meetings. Paralegals might investigate the facts of cases and ensure that all relevant information is considered. They also identify appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles, and other materials that are relevant to assigned cases. After they analyze and organize the information, paralegals may prepare written reports that attorneys use in determining how cases should be handled. If attorneys decide to file lawsuits on behalf of clients, paralegals may help prepare the legal arguments, draft pleadings and motions to be filed with the court, obtain affidavits, and assist attorneys during trials. Paralegals also organize and track files of all important case documents and make them available and easily accessible to attorneys.

Paralegal Intro

So to began i would like to express why i choose this topic. Well actually i would like to go college to become a paralegal and was already looking online to find out what i will need and what i need to know.i already know that you need a minimal of 7 years of college to qualify to be one 3 year of regular college courses and 4 years of law school. I plan on attending Bryant & Stratton college for 2 years, transfer to Alfred State college and finish to rest my school time there in their law program.
So i u see I'm pretty set on what i will be doing this project on. So you see i know the basics for becoming a paralegal but what exactly do they do.

Athletics or Acadimics

As i began my research i found it very difficult to find information about my essential question. Most of my searches led me back to the same thing which was colleges just mainly talking about the history of there academic programs or the history of there athletic programs i tried many different ways to type in my search like colleges academics vs athletics, and what are colleges main priority academics or athletics but most of these searches just sent me to colleges like the university of southern cal and drake talking about there 100 years of academic excellence but i could never seem to find the two being compared side by side to see which one colleges adored more. So as i was realizing that searching my topic on Google , yahoo, and ask.com where useless until Mr Malley showed us a new way to search on Google that will narrow done our searches tremendously called Boolean search techniques. These techniques just happened to be what i needed to jump start my search again. The top web Google search that appeared was a site with a article that was tittled "Athletics vs Academics" by Adena Andrews this rite here was just what i have been looking for. In her article she promotes a very interesting question which was when did college athletics become more important than the actual college and she makes a few pretty good points to express her point of view. She tells how in 2006 the university of Texas spent 8 million dollars on a jumbo tron the university told tuition and tax payers earlier that year that there money would be going towards better professors . Adena Andrews also 2001 to 2004 that the athletic budgets at division 1 schools had more than doubled in spending and. Even after telling about all of this Adena has more to tell as she goes on to say how say that at the university of southern California that it is a regular thing when a regular academic student is denied enrollment in a class because it is full of athletes and that athletes get early enrolment in classes because they play sports. The article that Adena Andrews wrote held many things that i was looking for to help me jump start my search again she i hope that i can continue with the recent success i have experienced in my search to help me find a answer to my essential question.

Paralegal Body 1

As my research begin to see the basic output that people go through when becoming a paralegal. So i will first take you through these steps and then show u "the life".
So to begin you may first want to ask your high school guidance counselor for recommendations of institutions offering paralegal certificates and degrees.Obtain the school catalogs and check whether the paralegal programs are approved by the American Bar Association or (ABA) some are not.
If most of the lawyers in your area prefer ABA-approved college programs, don't even consider other offerings.Decide whether to complete a paralegal certificate program for high school graduates, or a two-year or four-year college paralegal program. Be aware that many paralegals today are receiving at least a bachelor's degree, especially if they want to work for larger organizations.
Visit several schools you are considering. Be certain that they're known for being able to arrange a variety of internships for their students.Choose an area of legal specialty if you would like to work for a large law firm or the government. Possibilities include corporate law, criminal law, patent and copyright law, and real estate law.Plan to eventually become certified by the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) through a Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) designation. This will put you on a faster career track

In my search for my question on my i-search paper i visited a website called www.ezinearticles.com this website helped clarify my question a little. This article talked about peoples different point if views on weather technology is good or bad for us. A man named Lance Winslow discussed his and other peoples point of views and he thinks that he believes that technology is "dummying down the population base" and that most people became relient on technology and can't live without it(Winslow). Lance Winslow's side of the argument thinks why cant we be in tact with technology and be in tact with letting us thinking for ourselves(Winslow). This information tells me that my essential question will not have a plain answer it will most likely be a opinion because people might argue about the same topic but have different point of views.

As my research continued more people have different opinions and one person in particular was Howard Dittmer. This persons arguement is that teachers of some campuses are tryin to ban laptops from the classrooms in which they teach in, for many students this is a hassle because this how they take notes and they rely on the laptop to keep them on task and not needing to take all the notes by paper and pencil. Some drastic measures that some campuses are taking isz turning off the WiFi in the campus so students cannot use there laptops there(Dittmer). Again this helped me because it shows how people are against technology and even banning it just to have more participation in class, Howard Dittmer is against this ban and with technology on this one.

Sports Management...The research

So i find myself in class on google trying to find different ways to type in "Sports Management information" and get different information...that doesnt work, so i'm looking at the wide variety of different websites i can go to, to aid me in my quest to find out what Sports Management can do for me. As i scroll down the list i find myself clicking on this website (Answers.com) and it tells me that " Sports Management is a feild of education and vocation concering the business aspect of sports examples include the Front Office system in Professional sports, College sports managers, Recreational sports managers Sports Marketing" etc. I don't want to continue babbling on with what this website showed me, but i will say that it provided me with a great deal of information and this is just form one source. I'm positve that there is a great deal of information out there for my taking. As i begin my research part of this project i feel almost sure that i will find my answer to my question. i won't be left in the dust. Its only a matter of time for me.

Info And What I Learned

Going for math degree is not going to be simple work. There are lots of sites that gives me insight on what i need to do to get a math degree. As shown in Mathematics and StatiCheck Spellingstics, Degrees, Diplomas, and Qualifications some courses need to be succesfully taken. Like GCSC or open math to get a degree. To complete these courses and even be above would make things easy for you in looking for someting in the field of math. Like job openings and harder courses to futher your studies. Even though you use alot of math to get a degree, not so much is used when you get a degree. It is all about expressng yourself clearly and knowing your terms and equations. What can i do with a math degree describes this well.

Math Degree

There are plenty of interests in real life. Things that you take pleasure in doing and something that you would want to get paid for doing. While everyone has different interests I appreciate math. I would like to have a future in math and get a math degree.
Math seems simple but some gurling qualities are required. You have to be good with numbers and equations. Like setting up equations and solving them. For the most part, you would have to major in a math study for four to six years. At least to get a teaching degree rolling. You will have to learn how to handle children if teaching is also in your future.
But my questions are how long will it take to get a full math degree. What kinds of math needs to be studied to be sucsseful. And what techniques are used to complete a math degree.

Carpentry Reasearch Paper

I started my search on the computer, i whent to google in type n carpentry. As the search foor it many site camed up. A apprentice is a worker at least 16 years of age, except where a higher mimimum age standard is otherwise fixed by law, who is employed to learn a skilled trade as defined in sec. 29.4 under standards of apprenticeship fulfilling the requirements of sec. 29.5. (U.S. Department of Labor in the 21st Century Section 29.2) I learned that you can become a apprentice by going to apprenticeship program. By country and also by Occupation. Introduction to the i-search project

When i was younger i was always trying to make inventions for my mom and dad to try to make our lives easier. As i was growing up i would take apart certain things to see how they work to help me on my journey to inventing things. I ended up taking apart a AM/FM radio to see how it works and there was a lot of technology, such as micro chips and little power surges and things such as that. That how and when i became interested in wondering if technology is right for us or does it hurt us.

As i complete my project I'm going to be answering some questions such as "what are some of the opinions that other people have?", "Does technology advances affect us to?", "What does technology do for us?", "What technology might do but doesn't do?". All of these questions will help me find out my essential questions which is "Is technology making us inadequate to do things ourselves and how will it affect us in the long run?"

Do colleges promote there athletic programs over there academic programs

Do colleges really promote there athletic programs over there academic programs first became a thought of mine in a discussion i had with my older sister around the beginning of my senior year of high school. The discussion began as another one of her conversations that goes like this you need to figure out what colleges your going to apply to cause senior year here and will be gone before you no it and blah blah blah but the conversation quickly switched to how she was so upset with the college that she attends which is the university of southern Florida. The football team had recently been ranked national top 25 and had been moving up the ranks rapidly to wear it was ranked number 3 in the country her schools name was every where all you heard about was how usf was ranked nationally for the first time ever the school went from the general public not knowing much about it to if you mention the name usf most people new exactly what school you where talking about and all about the football team. This irritated my sister allot because she is one of those people that goes to a school because its a good school not because of its sports programs she has always felt that athletes are put on a plateau and are showered with glory for there achievements but but academic achievements do not receive the same amount of attention.

My knowledge on this subject is limited at this point. What i do know is that it is widely known for colleges to give out many full athletic scholarships but what i don't know is if the number of academic scholar ships are comparable.

I am going into my research with a open and clear mind to try and find out if athletics and academics are treated equally and if more opportunity's are given to athletes going into college rather than regular students and if the number of opportunity's that both the student and athlete will receive while in college are equal.
This is my MLA citation practice. I am copying and pasting this in order to have something to plop citations under.

Carpentry

Growing up going to school having techonolgy in the 7th and 8Th grade i found building stuff interesting. I allways like building things when i was younger but when i enter into my 7th and 8th grade year i knew i wanted to get involved with that field. 8th grade year when i pick my highschool i saw Mckinley in it had a course call building trades. I suddenly becamed interested in this school i pick it in got accepted. My first day at Mckinley i had plumbling the first marking period which was ok. Then i had carpentry 2nd marking period which i enjoyed. 3rd marking period i had sheetmetal which i did not find that to intersting. Last marking period i had carpentry again which i knew that was what i wanted to pick to major next year. Having carpentry at Mckinley in being able to have it befor i pick my major at Mckinley help me to become interested in carpentry even more.

I no that carpentry is just not hammering things, Befor you put something together or build something you have to first figure out how. You have to figure out mat problem as well. In carpentry you also have to be as much accurate as possible almost exact. Carpentry is about hard work, you got to be willing to do it. You can not play around you have to take carpentry very seriously if not taken seriously you can get badly injured or even killed . It is important to wear the proper clothen in have the right materials for example, you need a hardhat, a Toolbelt, Safety Glasses in more.

There are many thing needed to no about carpentry, I want to no How can i make a carrer out of carpentry? What field is iam interested in? Which field offer better pay? Which field will i want to do for a living? And can i see myself doing this for many years to come?

Sports Management...What can it do for me?

Growing up, Basketball and just sports in general has always been apart of my life. Whether it was waking up early as a kid to play street football, or going into my backyard to throw a Basketball at my garage because back then we didn't have a portable Basketball hoop. But I knew I would always be interested in sports, so as i get older I realize that I want to continue to be around sports, Basketball in particular and whether i'm playing the game itself or in the feild in some way, shape, or form. So as I prepare for college I thought to myself that Sports Management could be what i want to do as far as a career. I see myself always around the sport i love and have a passion for

Being an athlete i have always been drawn into the world of sports. With Sports Management i know i have different feilds in which i could persue. It could be a variety of things, from me owning my own Sports Agency on the Professional, Collegiate, Highschool level, or working for an Agency, I want to help others strive for success in the sport they love. I feel that I'm a great people person and would do great in this business

My main goal is to find out as much information as i can about my future major and possible career Sports Management. I want to make sure I really want this for me. College students change their major all the time, I don't want to be one of those students, Enjoying every second of the material i learn and retain it. So i ask myself, With the information I learn, will I still be interested in this major, and will I still to persue this career?

A Bond Like Brothers

Slam By Walter Dean Myers
pages 105 - 190

I believe everybody has one childhood friend were you to are so close that ya llcould be brothers / sister well in the novel slam Greg has one of these friends his name is ice. In the novel they say Greg and ice did every thing together while they were growing up even having the same baby sister and going to the same school all of there life except when Greg left to go to latimer. Greg and ice are only a year apart in age but you wouldn't know it from just reading the novel if they didn't tell you but now here is were it gets interesting in the novel another friend who is close to both Greg and ice tells Greg that ice is hanging around with the wrong people and is and somehow is getting allot of money without a job the character continues on to say that she thinks ice is selling drugs and that she wanted Greg to confront him about it . In the novel Greg has trouble building the inner sterength up to confront ice his child hood friend about the allegations have you ever in your life had a friend that was dis close to you and that you had to confront with a problem like dis if you have what did you do if not what would you do if you were in Greg's situation

An Overnight Star

Slam by Walter Dean Myers
pages 54 - 104

In this part of the novel the main character pretty much go's from being a nobody with in his new school latimer to being the most talked about person in the . Main character Greg (Slam) Harris over night star hood begins when he and the schools basketball team takes on an opposing team at his schools gym t First Greg did not see the floor for much of the game but when he did to his want to show the coach and the fans that he could really play propelled him to one of the best games his school had ever seen. When Greg gt his first taste of the action it was in the middle of the 3rd quarter and he was eager to make an impact and he does with his spark off the bench the teams takes fire and starts clicking on all cylinders they begin to come back slowly but surely and with the constant ball pressure being applied and crowed up rising dunks by Greg the team takes the lead and wins by 11 ironically the same amount of points Greg had in the game but instantly after the game Greg had went from pretty much being a nobody to being one of the biggest stars in school. To me I believe this happens allot in high schools where an athlete may have a very good game and immediately the next day in school is the most talked about person to me this good be good or bad the athlete could either take this as motivation to work harder and become better or he can let the fame go to his / her head. So my question is what do you think do you think this happens allot in high schools and what type of effect do you think it has on the person

The Ending

Summer Ball by Mike Lupica, pages read 140-244. Now where I last left off Danny Walker was going through a dilema that could decide his future as a basketball player. He was about to leave the right way basketball camp. But showing his nevers and toughness u stayed and plaed out his trip. But him seeing his friend Tess eased the burden. When he seen and talked with her it made him feel back to his normal self again. He is ready to show Mr. Powers, the coach he can't please that he is ready. But in this final journey in the book drama is at the highest of levels. Danny dealing with lots of things. On the court, or off the court it all happens. Starting with a confrentation with a star player on the opposite team. Danny and Lamar Parrish grew into rivals. Lamar is a showboat and an ignorant player who gets in your skin one way or another. Even to the point where him and Danny fought. Then even Danny's minutes were getting reduced with everygame. He was in the doghouse with coach Powers and had beef at the camp. His camp is not going in the right direction again. But everything chanes for one last time. After the figh he steeped up mentally and physically. Avoid the arrogance of Lamar and gettin more minutes during the playoffs, even getting time during the end of the game when the smartest of decision need to be made. At the last game when he met up with Lamar's team he showed what he was made of. Assisting many players and on the last play shutting down Lamar for the game winning steal. But the question is how do you think Danny handeled himself at a camp where his coach didn't even think he belonged?

THE BIG TRIP, Eagle Blue by Micheal D'orso Pg 153-170

In my book eagle blue the main character is about to go on a trip but he dont know if he is going to do better then he usually does. He is scared alittle because there is this team called the russians and they dominate everyone they play. I think that he is going to overcome his fear and show the russians who is boss. I wonder if he is going to come out on top?

Conflict On The Court

Slam
(pages 1- 53)

I have begun reading and have progressed into the novel some and threw out the first 53 pages of the novel it has became very relevant to me that the main character Greg Harris a.k.a slam is enduring many stressful and conflicting events in his life. Greg Harris is a high school junior that is all about playing basketball it is made clear in the novel that all he really thinks about is playing ball and that he's very good as is evident in his nick name and title of the book slam. The conflict begins when Greg (slam) begins his junior year at a new school that is more advanced than his former high school but as basketball season looms the principal tells him that with his grades he may need to be his number one priority and that he may need to concentrate on school only his conflicts continues to mount as the coach of the team doesn't give him the respect that he felt is need and his grandmother becomes very sick which makes it every more difficult for him to concentrate on school and basketball. Has there ever been a time in your life or someones life that you know were there was something very important to you or that but every time you tried to focus on it bad things kept happening to keep you from focusing on it

Slam By Walter Dean Myers pgs (1-16) Complete Ch.1

Greg"Slam"Harris a 17 year old boy with dreams of making it big in the basketball world....on the court "Slam" is an all-star but in the class he's a kid who could care less about work. He has a typical life he has 1 brother Derek his mom and his dad and they all live together. Wow i look at that as being a responsible parent a father who stays with his family and does what he needs to do to keep a roof over their head and work every day and provides. I wonder how he did it he managed to keep he family together and even through the mother and the farther argue like most families he didn't run away he didn't leave the mother to be a single parent raising a boy on her own,Wow i wonder how did he do it. What is it that most fathers can't do that he can? Do you know a family where a mother had to raise a boy on her own an take responsibility as the mother and the father.

(Cause i do mine.)

Irony In The Novel

I have progressed into Summer Ball by Mike Lupica reading from page 51-139. Now as im reading futher into this book it is getting very good and is taking some interesting turns. Now Danny Walker is very tough and says he will never quit but his coach at the right way camp is pushing him dearly. By criticing his game, yelling at him for dumb mistakes, and making him run constanly, he is chipping his pride day by day, practice by practice. Danny has talked back to the coach and even has questioned him at certin times, which is out of his personality. He has even talked to coach Powers, telling him that they weren't a good coach-player match and that he should switch teams. Now as i said Danny is usually tough and will go through his problems. But this time by a surprise to me, he is trying to find a way to leave the right way camp and fly back home never to come back. But with not too much sucess he tries to fake a knee injury and make it look more serious than it looked to get back home. But just as this plan is coming up his friend Tess is messaging him saying she isn't far away and wants to see him. So with all of this going on in dannny's life will he stay or leave the right way camp? Will Tess bring him back to happiness and focus him or will he break down and fail?

New Beginnings

The moves make the man by Bruce Brooks
(pages 52 70)

Well its now the end of the summer and Jerome is startin to think about the new school he'll have to be attending due to a new intergration law passed by congress and ofcourse Jerome isn't to happy about this simply because he'll be the ONLY black kid in the school. But theres an upside, Jerome is a very bright student in the classroom and because of that has already met some of the teachers there so he feels it'll be an easier transition he also learns of Basketball tryouts and is ready to go!. Tryouts come around and Jerome is showing off his fancy behind the back passes, reverse layups, no look passes but does not make a good impression with the coach who already has it out for Jerome because hes black. He tells Jerome that his flashy actions will not be tolerated and Basketball is a Five man game not one... I wonder if Jerome will make the team let alone get on the coaches good side

Fabfive, you are all behind on your posts.  You guys need to focus on your work.   All four posts should be completed by this time.

This is a story about basketball and fantasy with i believe is good way to express yourself in words that you don't have to speak in front of others but still get your feelings and thoughts out to the world.
Most people don't like to express themselves but i believe it is easier than actually tell people how you feel. Do any of you have things you like to express than write a story it might change the way you feel about things.

Conflicts in the novel pages 20-40

In the book The Travel Team Danny faced many problems. One problem he faced was wanting to see his father more. Danny expressed his fellings by showing how now that he dont live with his father he cant do some off the stuff he want to do. He showed how he cant have a real close bond with his father because he is not around that much. He also show how he dont have no one to talk to about certain things like basketball when he is at home. He also sad he wish his dad still lived with them for they can play one on one for he can improve his game in show his dad that he is improving in basketball. I can see wear Danny is coming from because many people today dont live with both parents. So i think many people today can relate to Danny in many ways today because there are lots of peolple who dont have father today

Eagle Blue by Micheal D'orso Pgs 82-98

The book isnt what thought it was going to be about but it is starting to get interesting. It i putting everyone in a depressivs state. I feel kind of bad for the main charater because his cat is dieing after 11 years of life. I can kind of relate to the character because i have a cat and a dog. Now the girl is having a scrimmage against a rival team and she hopes she ia going to win.

The moves make the man by Bruce Brooks
(pages 15-50)

The Novel has gone back to the beginning when jerome first saw bix and Jerome's inpression of bix. Jerome saw bix for the first time at a Baseball game which by the way Jerome dislikes very much. Says its not a real sport. It was a white team from the other side of town with more money and better jerseys than the black teams. They were all uniform and came to play. Jerome hated that these white teams did this every summer. But amidst all of that, He thought Bix's whole demeanor was special and was something very different about him. Jerome watched as Bix struck out the opposing team with great ease and stayed humble about it each time he did so. Jerome still doesn't know to much about this "bix" character but is determined to find out. I wonder what Jerome will do to gather more information on Bix.

Troubles In Summer Ball pgs 31-50

Now the main character Danny is going through some problems, on and off the court. Right before he left to go to a basketball camp, he had a dispute with Tess, a gril his has a thing for. If it becomes serious this can make him feel depressed and affect his attitude on and off the court. Since they will not be talking for a long period of time, that can put a burden on his heart. he might not act or be the same person with this problem on his mind. Then his height can make things harder on the court. He is playing aganist high schoolers and he is satnding at five-foot five. He sometimes is bullied for easy baskets, pushed around and even picked on because of his short stature. But I think Danny is good with adversity. He has already handled these problems okay so far. Not thinking about Tess and still playing his type of game on the court. He should do good at the camp but will Tess catch up in his thoughts and will his height be a setback in this basketball camp full of tall upperclassmen?

Impression on my novel

Iam reading Travel Team by Mike Lupica so far i have read about 20 pages of it. this book seem like it will become interesting as i get farther into it. so far it is talking about how a boy who name is Danny who loves basketball but have always been called little because he is very short want to make the travel team. danny lives with his mom who always believe in him. danny dont live with his father but is close to him because his father tell him things he need to work on if he want to make the travel team. Danny spend lots of time in his backyard working on his game. when it was time for tryouts he made the team because he can pass very will. danny was told that he would not be on the travel team because he is too small. I think as i read more of the book somehow Danny will find away to make the travel team in prove that just because he is small he still could be as good as any one else.

Impressions Of Summer Ball

The book I am currently reading is Summer Ball by Mike Lupica. I have got to as far as the beginning to page thirty. I see potential in this book being a good book to read and relate to. If you want to know about life playing basketball with a chip on your shoulder, then this is your book. I think this book will show you how to accomplish your goals even though many people try to put you at a disadvantage. In my opinion I think Summer Ball will show the reader to go through wth what you want to succede with, and don't stop. I can see these things already by looking at the main character Danny Walker. He is an outstanding basketball player, already being criticized for his lack of height. From the looks of this book he is taking a good attitude and not letting this take advantage of his game. So my question is in future will Danny let this critcisim put he game and attitude down?

Initial impression of "The necessary hunger"by Nina Revoyr Pgs 1-16

My first impressions of the book are that the girl wants to be excepted and she's trying to be excepted by other people so she joins a basketball team. She feels that people treat her different because she is taller and everybody thinks she should be this big basketball starbecause she is 6 foot 155 pounds. I think the book might be alittle interesting because I like basketball as well as Nancy takahiro(this is the main character of the storyshe is asian and very tall for a girl.

Impression on my novel

The Moves Make the Man, by Bruce Brooks
(pages read 1-15).

My immidiate impression of the story was that it was going to be a good one. I'm always ready to read a sports novel whether it be tennis, football, soccer or basketball as long as it has a good sense of teamwork, competition, conflict, and characters with many dimensions. The story starts off with a boy named Jerome telling the reader the events that are currently taking place in his life. His bestfriend Bix has ran away and no one knows why, well no one does besides Jerome, Bix's bestfriend. He begins to tell the reader of what type of kide Bix was and why he doesnt believe his bestfriend would just up and leave without a logical explanation. Jerome was all that Bix had, his family life wasn't to great and caused them to be distant. And now with the disappearance of Bix, Jerome is the only one that can tell his story...his legacy. So far with the little bit of reading I've done I see a great book in my future. Theres already conflict which i feel is a great key in having a good sports novel. I'm just waiting for the other pieces of the puzzle to fall in place. Only time will tell.

Assessment - Indy Reading Project - December

Ramon - 5/5 completed

Good responses.  I like that you try to vary the prompts you are responding to, and your insight into the way sports books usually work vs. patterns in  The Contender was insightful.  Nice job.

Jamar - 5/5 completed

Decent responses Jamar, although I'd like to see you vary your response topics a bit more.  Remember, when you say something, bring up an example to prove it.  If you're going to talk about images defining characters, then back it up with an example.

Efrain - 5/5 completed
Efrain, nice improvement so far this quarter.  Some responses were strong ("If I Could Ask a Character...") and some were a little weak (the last one was underdeveloped and superficial).  Let's move towards a more even effort next time.

Jeremy - 5/5 completed
Before I get to the good things, I need to yell at you.  CAPITALIZE!  PUNCTUATE!  This stuff is published for the world to see, and I need you to be more mindful of conventions.
Now, I think your responses are strong (are you referencing that kid from Greece...Jmac?) and I enjoyed the exchange of comments.  It shows a lot that you are willing to go back to clarify.  Nice job.

Chandler - 5/5 completed
I really enjoyed the "Feel it in the Air" response.  Good connection.  The setting response was...umm...umm...how to say nicely...left something to be desired.  Oh yeah, and proofread, dude.

Glad to see you try to catch up, but I have a few things to say.  First of all, I want to hear what you know about Stephen King, not what Stephen King's website has to say.  Put it in your own words.  I'm interested in seeing what you can do now that you'll be here.
