A Bond Like Brothers

Slam By Walter Dean Myers
pages 105 - 190

I believe everybody has one childhood friend were you to are so close that ya llcould be brothers / sister well in the novel slam Greg has one of these friends his name is ice. In the novel they say Greg and ice did every thing together while they were growing up even having the same baby sister and going to the same school all of there life except when Greg left to go to latimer. Greg and ice are only a year apart in age but you wouldn't know it from just reading the novel if they didn't tell you but now here is were it gets interesting in the novel another friend who is close to both Greg and ice tells Greg that ice is hanging around with the wrong people and is and somehow is getting allot of money without a job the character continues on to say that she thinks ice is selling drugs and that she wanted Greg to confront him about it . In the novel Greg has trouble building the inner sterength up to confront ice his child hood friend about the allegations have you ever in your life had a friend that was dis close to you and that you had to confront with a problem like dis if you have what did you do if not what would you do if you were in Greg's situation

An Overnight Star

Slam by Walter Dean Myers
pages 54 - 104

In this part of the novel the main character pretty much go's from being a nobody with in his new school latimer to being the most talked about person in the . Main character Greg (Slam) Harris over night star hood begins when he and the schools basketball team takes on an opposing team at his schools gym t First Greg did not see the floor for much of the game but when he did to his want to show the coach and the fans that he could really play propelled him to one of the best games his school had ever seen. When Greg gt his first taste of the action it was in the middle of the 3rd quarter and he was eager to make an impact and he does with his spark off the bench the teams takes fire and starts clicking on all cylinders they begin to come back slowly but surely and with the constant ball pressure being applied and crowed up rising dunks by Greg the team takes the lead and wins by 11 ironically the same amount of points Greg had in the game but instantly after the game Greg had went from pretty much being a nobody to being one of the biggest stars in school. To me I believe this happens allot in high schools where an athlete may have a very good game and immediately the next day in school is the most talked about person to me this good be good or bad the athlete could either take this as motivation to work harder and become better or he can let the fame go to his / her head. So my question is what do you think do you think this happens allot in high schools and what type of effect do you think it has on the person

The Ending

Summer Ball by Mike Lupica, pages read 140-244. Now where I last left off Danny Walker was going through a dilema that could decide his future as a basketball player. He was about to leave the right way basketball camp. But showing his nevers and toughness u stayed and plaed out his trip. But him seeing his friend Tess eased the burden. When he seen and talked with her it made him feel back to his normal self again. He is ready to show Mr. Powers, the coach he can't please that he is ready. But in this final journey in the book drama is at the highest of levels. Danny dealing with lots of things. On the court, or off the court it all happens. Starting with a confrentation with a star player on the opposite team. Danny and Lamar Parrish grew into rivals. Lamar is a showboat and an ignorant player who gets in your skin one way or another. Even to the point where him and Danny fought. Then even Danny's minutes were getting reduced with everygame. He was in the doghouse with coach Powers and had beef at the camp. His camp is not going in the right direction again. But everything chanes for one last time. After the figh he steeped up mentally and physically. Avoid the arrogance of Lamar and gettin more minutes during the playoffs, even getting time during the end of the game when the smartest of decision need to be made. At the last game when he met up with Lamar's team he showed what he was made of. Assisting many players and on the last play shutting down Lamar for the game winning steal. But the question is how do you think Danny handeled himself at a camp where his coach didn't even think he belonged?

THE BIG TRIP, Eagle Blue by Micheal D'orso Pg 153-170

In my book eagle blue the main character is about to go on a trip but he dont know if he is going to do better then he usually does. He is scared alittle because there is this team called the russians and they dominate everyone they play. I think that he is going to overcome his fear and show the russians who is boss. I wonder if he is going to come out on top?

Conflict On The Court

Slam
(pages 1- 53)

I have begun reading and have progressed into the novel some and threw out the first 53 pages of the novel it has became very relevant to me that the main character Greg Harris a.k.a slam is enduring many stressful and conflicting events in his life. Greg Harris is a high school junior that is all about playing basketball it is made clear in the novel that all he really thinks about is playing ball and that he's very good as is evident in his nick name and title of the book slam. The conflict begins when Greg (slam) begins his junior year at a new school that is more advanced than his former high school but as basketball season looms the principal tells him that with his grades he may need to be his number one priority and that he may need to concentrate on school only his conflicts continues to mount as the coach of the team doesn't give him the respect that he felt is need and his grandmother becomes very sick which makes it every more difficult for him to concentrate on school and basketball. Has there ever been a time in your life or someones life that you know were there was something very important to you or that but every time you tried to focus on it bad things kept happening to keep you from focusing on it

Slam By Walter Dean Myers pgs (1-16) Complete Ch.1

Greg"Slam"Harris a 17 year old boy with dreams of making it big in the basketball world....on the court "Slam" is an all-star but in the class he's a kid who could care less about work. He has a typical life he has 1 brother Derek his mom and his dad and they all live together. Wow i look at that as being a responsible parent a father who stays with his family and does what he needs to do to keep a roof over their head and work every day and provides. I wonder how he did it he managed to keep he family together and even through the mother and the farther argue like most families he didn't run away he didn't leave the mother to be a single parent raising a boy on her own,Wow i wonder how did he do it. What is it that most fathers can't do that he can? Do you know a family where a mother had to raise a boy on her own an take responsibility as the mother and the father.

Irony In The Novel

I have progressed into Summer Ball by Mike Lupica reading from page 51-139. Now as im reading futher into this book it is getting very good and is taking some interesting turns. Now Danny Walker is very tough and says he will never quit but his coach at the right way camp is pushing him dearly. By criticing his game, yelling at him for dumb mistakes, and making him run constanly, he is chipping his pride day by day, practice by practice. Danny has talked back to the coach and even has questioned him at certin times, which is out of his personality. He has even talked to coach Powers, telling him that they weren't a good coach-player match and that he should switch teams. Now as i said Danny is usually tough and will go through his problems. But this time by a surprise to me, he is trying to find a way to leave the right way camp and fly back home never to come back. But with not too much sucess he tries to fake a knee injury and make it look more serious than it looked to get back home. But just as this plan is coming up his friend Tess is messaging him saying she isn't far away and wants to see him. So with all of this going on in dannny's life will he stay or leave the right way camp? Will Tess bring him back to happiness and focus him or will he break down and fail?

New Beginnings

The moves make the man by Bruce Brooks
(pages 52 70)

Well its now the end of the summer and Jerome is startin to think about the new school he'll have to be attending due to a new intergration law passed by congress and ofcourse Jerome isn't to happy about this simply because he'll be the ONLY black kid in the school. But theres an upside, Jerome is a very bright student in the classroom and because of that has already met some of the teachers there so he feels it'll be an easier transition he also learns of Basketball tryouts and is ready to go!. Tryouts come around and Jerome is showing off his fancy behind the back passes, reverse layups, no look passes but does not make a good impression with the coach who already has it out for Jerome because hes black. He tells Jerome that his flashy actions will not be tolerated and Basketball is a Five man game not one... I wonder if Jerome will make the team let alone get on the coaches good side

This is a story about basketball and fantasy with i believe is good way to express yourself in words that you don't have to speak in front of others but still get your feelings and thoughts out to the world.
Most people don't like to express themselves but i believe it is easier than actually tell people how you feel. Do any of you have things you like to express than write a story it might change the way you feel about things.

Conflicts in the novel pages 20-40

In the book The Travel Team Danny faced many problems. One problem he faced was wanting to see his father more. Danny expressed his fellings by showing how now that he dont live with his father he cant do some off the stuff he want to do. He showed how he cant have a real close bond with his father because he is not around that much. He also show how he dont have no one to talk to about certain things like basketball when he is at home. He also sad he wish his dad still lived with them for they can play one on one for he can improve his game in show his dad that he is improving in basketball. I can see wear Danny is coming from because many people today dont live with both parents. So i think many people today can relate to Danny in many ways today because there are lots of peolple who dont have father today

Eagle Blue by Micheal D'orso Pgs 82-98

The book isnt what thought it was going to be about but it is starting to get interesting. It i putting everyone in a depressivs state. I feel kind of bad for the main charater because his cat is dieing after 11 years of life. I can kind of relate to the character because i have a cat and a dog. Now the girl is having a scrimmage against a rival team and she hopes she ia going to win.

The moves make the man by Bruce Brooks
(pages 15-50)

The Novel has gone back to the beginning when jerome first saw bix and Jerome's inpression of bix. Jerome saw bix for the first time at a Baseball game which by the way Jerome dislikes very much. Says its not a real sport. It was a white team from the other side of town with more money and better jerseys than the black teams. They were all uniform and came to play. Jerome hated that these white teams did this every summer. But amidst all of that, He thought Bix's whole demeanor was special and was something very different about him. Jerome watched as Bix struck out the opposing team with great ease and stayed humble about it each time he did so. Jerome still doesn't know to much about this "bix" character but is determined to find out. I wonder what Jerome will do to gather more information on Bix.

Troubles In Summer Ball pgs 31-50

Now the main character Danny is going through some problems, on and off the court. Right before he left to go to a basketball camp, he had a dispute with Tess, a gril his has a thing for. If it becomes serious this can make him feel depressed and affect his attitude on and off the court. Since they will not be talking for a long period of time, that can put a burden on his heart. he might not act or be the same person with this problem on his mind. Then his height can make things harder on the court. He is playing aganist high schoolers and he is satnding at five-foot five. He sometimes is bullied for easy baskets, pushed around and even picked on because of his short stature. But I think Danny is good with adversity. He has already handled these problems okay so far. Not thinking about Tess and still playing his type of game on the court. He should do good at the camp but will Tess catch up in his thoughts and will his height be a setback in this basketball camp full of tall upperclassmen?

Impression on my novel

Iam reading Travel Team by Mike Lupica so far i have read about 20 pages of it. this book seem like it will become interesting as i get farther into it. so far it is talking about how a boy who name is Danny who loves basketball but have always been called little because he is very short want to make the travel team. danny lives with his mom who always believe in him. danny dont live with his father but is close to him because his father tell him things he need to work on if he want to make the travel team. Danny spend lots of time in his backyard working on his game. when it was time for tryouts he made the team because he can pass very will. danny was told that he would not be on the travel team because he is too small. I think as i read more of the book somehow Danny will find away to make the travel team in prove that just because he is small he still could be as good as any one else.
